South Africa beat US in T20 Super 8 match

South Africa beat the US by 18 runs in their T20 World Cup Super 8 encounter at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound on Wednesday. Kagiso Rabada’s 3/18 in four overs helped the Proteas defend the 195-run mark. After Steven Taylor led the USA’s attack against the Proteas’ pacers, Rabada gave his team the first breakthrough by dismissing the left-handed batsman on 24 runs.

After Taylor’s removal, Nitish Kumar (8), skipper Aaron Jones (0), Corey Anderson (2), and Shayan Jahangir (3) all returned to the pavillion without scoring Andries Gous and Harmeet Singh’s 91-run aim did not help the Proteas, as the USA needed 28 runs from 12 balls at one stage.

Rabada got the ball in the 19th over and removed Harmeet on the first ball, stopping the USA’s attack again. Without Harmeet (38 off 22), USA struggled and finished at 176-6 in 20 overs. Gous scored 80 off 47 with 10 boundaries.

South Africa set a 195-run goal for the US in their T20 World Cup Super 8 encounter at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound on Wednesday.

After being asked to bat first, Reeza Hendricks continued his poor form and returned to the pavillion after 11 runs, leaving South Africa 16-1 in 2.4 overs.

After losing one wicket, Quinton de Kock took leadership of their innings and scored 74 runs on 40 balls with seven fours and five sixes, his highest knock of the competition.

The Proteas took the lead after Aiden Markram and De Kock’s 110 runs. South Africa lost wickets quickly after the wicketkeeper batter’s departure, with Miller (0) and Markram (46) returning to the pavillion.

Heinrich Klaasen (36 off 22) and Tristan Stubbs (20 off 16) helped South Africa finish 194-4 in the allotted overs.

After winning the toss, US bowled first against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2024.

USA captain Aaron Jones said the team will bring an extra spinner since the conditions may be similar to Dallas.

“We’re going with the extra spinner,” Jones remarked. “I don’t think it’s going to be too different to Dallas.”

In parallel, South Africa’s skipper Aiden Markram wondered what he would have done if he won the toss.

“We weren’t sure what to do,” Markram said. “We would also have leant towards bowling but we’re not too bothered with the result of the toss.”
