In pursuit of Afghanistan’s initial target of 116 runs, adjusted to 114 runs in 19 overs owing to rain. Bangladesh’s batting lineup was dismissed for a total of 105 runs in the 18th over of the match held at the Arnos Vale Stadium in West Indies.
The Afghan bowlers performed admirably, securing their team’s place alongside India as the semi-finalists from Group 1, eliminating Australia from the competition.
Skipper Rashid Khan claimed figures of 4-23, while Naveen-ul-Haq took 4-26 in a determined bowling display. Securing their team’s advancement to the next phase of the tournament.
The first semi-final match between Afghanistan and South Africa will occur at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on June 27th (Thursday). India will face England on the same day in the second semi-final at the Guyana National Stadium.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, Afghanistan was limited to a score of 115 runs earlier in the day.
Rishad Hossain stood up as the most successful bowler for Bangladesh, taking 3 wickets for 26 runs in four overs. He successfully dismissed the key batsmen Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Gulbadin Naib.
Gurbaz emerged as Afghanistan’s highest scorer, amassing 43 runs off 55 deliveries, including three boundaries and a six.
