“The new selection committee will make merit-based independent decisions to select the team,” the statement continued. Former Pakistani bowler Wahab Riaz was leading the now-disbanded selection committee, which also comprised Tauseef Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti, and Wasim Haider.
The committee included consultant Kamran Akmal and manager/analyst Rao Iftikhar as well as Hasan Muzaffar Cheema. According to sources, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to reveal the new selection committee during today’s news conference. Rumour has it that all-rounder Abdul Razzaq is vying for a spot on the committee, while top selector Wahab is likely to keep his job.
Naqvi believes the selection committee should have complete power. Therefore, earlier this Monday, sources informed us that the PCB had decided to give it even more power. The selection committee will reportedly be tasked with selecting the national team captain and recruiting a new coach.
