“This committee will henceforth make all decisions. The PCB chairman remarked, “Our key management players will make decisions and are sure to deliver good results.”

He noted that the Under-19 cricket selection committee will be the same. Naqvi stated management was working on the team’s coaches. Plus, the PCB is finalizing a coaching panel, he said. Naqvi said national and foreign coaches will be chosen in four to five days.

The chairman also mentioned Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf’s restored central contract. Naqvi claimed that Rauf’s letter was a misunderstanding and a wrong decision. So, he stated that the pacer appealed to the tribunal. According to the PCB chief, Rauf’s injuries will be covered by insurance as the team’s main player.

He claimed the contract would standardize NOC policy. “There will be no relaxation for any of the [players],” he said.

Thus, Naqvi added that the selection committee will decide on the team’s captain.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi will remain the captain, or there will be a new skipper; this decision will be taken after deliberations,” he said.

Naqvi hopes the 2024 Champions Trophy went as planned. Plus, he told journalists that an ICC delegation is visiting Pakistan to examine tournament preparations. Hence, Naqvi remarked that everyone thought the team to be strong for the T20 World Cup, including all-rounder Imad Waseem, who recently retired.

He said, “We just asked Imad to come back.”
